COVID - 19 | Where My Thoughts Are...

In my previous post, I shared that I teach Culinary Arts & Nutrition at a middle school. Currently, I am thinking of the kids that I serve. My thoughts are of them and their families, hoping that they have enough to eat. I am wishing that with all I taught my chefs, they are now equipped with the tools, skills and self-sufficiency needed during a time like this.

I am thinking of each scholar who relies on the food at school to get them through the day. With this, we must remember that this time is not a vacation for many of those kids and they are in fact missing the safe space our school has created for them. May this time pass sooner than later so us teachers can go back to seeing the bright smiles we are missing in such a gloomy time. May this time bring us clarity of all that is truly important; togetherness.

EDIT: I am well aware of the resources that schools and restaurants are offering. Luckily, my school has partnered with Sodexo to offer meals to our kids. The next step to our thinking would be accessibility and transportation. A lot of kids' parents still have to go to work; not everyone has a 9-5 job that gives the option to work from home. With that, not every child can be taken to these places for food and must depend on what is in their refrigerator.. and that is what pains me.
